Design Processes (Farah)

This is what I have so far... Roof is still not complete, but might have a sawtooth roof... It's not complete but feel free to criticize to your best abilities!

- It's not two story, but I just have a really high ceiling.
- Since this is already a very small space, I didn't want the author to feel claustrophobic, and I thought that having a really high ceiling with light coming through all over really aids in enhancing the space and giving it a more "grand" feel....
- The reason I don't have any windows on the "lower" level is because I don't really want the author to be exposed.. so I'm still trying to figure out how to fix that without sacrificing the author's privacy.
- Specific forms for cool shadows

    1. To not feel detached from the environment yet still maintaining a sense of privacy

  2. certain walls look very jailcell like, maybe adding windows that still let viewer see the site but no the reverse could help. Adding windows on the walls above regular eye level height could be a suggestion, this would let the viewer see the trees / buildings but not let people peer in

  3. Your intention is not all too different from what one would imagine is required from the program (i.e. there should be some level of privacy for working and certainly going to the washroom as well as separating from the environment as the act of making a building pretty much does that tacitly). As mentioned in studio several times already, it is really worthwhile to determine how successful you are with the project if you can bring a stranger to the discussion and show them the design to determine if they actually come close to the intention. In this case it is not very evident.
The shadow play we discussed is far more engaging and useful but there needs to be clarity on whether that is the direction you wish to pursue. Just because you wish to isolate the author and have no windows on the main level does not mean you cannot have a sense of a cohesive elevation and design. Do this and you will find that the project will be stronger.
