Below Grade and Light

Vince suggested a few examples to look at when attempting to set the studio partly in ground and food ideas to bring in light from the ceiling.

This is a building by Erick Van Egeraat (I think) and from what Vince told me, it's something called the Whale Bank. So, give it a look because it can be a good approach at having a semi-submerged studio where there is an abundance of light preventing the space from feeling claustrophobic.

Also, Vince told me to look up the Snohetta Reindeer Pavilion. It's a great small space which from the outside looks like a simple glass box but the interior has some interesting forms.

Similar to the sauna we saw before where the exterior looks just like a box with a hole and inside, it is made out of flowing wood, all fitting together, the Reindeer Pavilion can help you think about making interesting forms and stray away from the extrusion condition.

  1. Umm no. You have put down Frank Gehry's early DZ Bank Building aka the Sheep's Head. "The Whale" is Egeraat's ING Bank in Hungary...
