I've revised my design and made some significant changes, altering the roof, overhang, and north side, as well as the desk and counter on the inside. Here are some screenshots:
I've also been looking at the idea of changing the roof so it's not so disjointed, perhaps with a structure like this:
Any feedback from anybody would be appreciated.
I think you have too many openings in your building, plus the addition of skylights looks a bit random and does not work properly with your design (in my opinion!). instead of keeping on adding elements try to remove some. i would also suggest that you clean up the geometry (i.e the roof...)
ReplyDeleteif you want a good feedback, reread the comments vince posted on your posts and others to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again.
Thanks for the feedback. By openings, I'm guessing you mean the windows? You're probably right, I was considering reducing the size of the large window, perhaps having it end around where the desk transitions into the counter. Also if I do that I can probably reduce the size of the overhang as well, as it will no longer be needed all the way across. The weird roof geometry is due to the jutting out bit of my window a leftover from my awkward huge window/skylight from the interim. I'm planning on removing it. The only reason it's still here is because I'm just messing with ideas right now and didn't feel like completely rebuilding that entire section just yet, but I'll definitely change that for the final model. As for the skylights, considering most of my building is fairly angular I would say they don't look totally random, but they do perhaps draw a bit too much attention to themselves, and it might be a better plan to have them less elevated maybe?
Deletealso, considering rendering as you design since it helps to see how the materials work with each other
ReplyDeleteThis is positive progress as you are moving away from something that was a bit too sloppy and came across as a "Frankenstein" project where bits and pieces of different ideas came together. That said, it still is clunky and as the comments posted earlier indicate, there are many ways to improve this. Bands for the skylights offer some continuity to the ground and around the building but still do not work with the rest of the geometry of the design. Make them work together and you might have something better. Also consider decreasing the height and possibly number of these bands. The floor plan will likely need to change to adequately integrate these elements into the design as failing to do so would mean that these become decorative pieces rather than integral parts of the architecture. You also must show what the interior implications are with respect to these bands and your exterior perspectives really must come down to a human view as you are once again reverting to focusing on the work as an object (with a need to showcase the roof for some reason).
