Interim Critique (Farah)

Stan commented on how in order for shadow to be cast, in needs two things. 1) Light 2) An Object
He found it confusing as to where I placed my studio because there were actually no trees facing the "canvas" wall. I never took that into consideration because he's completely right.

Stan also talked about how I don't really need slits for "light", because when the light hits the wall, it will reflect the light into the studio and illuminate the interior. He also said that the location of the desk should be deliberate, and not just placed randomly. Also that I shouldn't be casting light everywhere.

  1. Supplemental;
    -not only should you be deliberate about the furnishings and lighting, but you should find ways to integrate it into the design; strong designers are able to develop a design consistency from the structure all the way to the finer details like the handrails; you should be able to do something similar
    -slits may be reduced but the back of the studio may not get much ambient reflected light from the canvas wall so based upon your adjustments to the layout you may still have a band letting light into darker areas
    -Photoshop montages of the view of the project from afar should be interesting; perhaps a site section of some sort would help explain the shadow casting?; if not, at the very least a good scaled section should provide the insight for audiences to understand the intention; incidentally, what is the rationale you are going to use for the shadow casting?
    -you need sections more than elevations in this suite as your building is underground
    -ensure that the details such as the formwork markings in the render show up in the elevation
    -you need montage imagery that showcases the approach to the project and possibly the trees and context matters; again, the site plan fails to show real connectivity to the building
    -you need a site plan and a floor plan of the project; be clear about following conventions
    -start thinking about the night and renderings; winter could be interesting in the pit space
    -layout still could be improved; given the imagery requests, this is likely going to spread over 2 posters; current layout is inconsistent (i.e. spacing)
    -if you model it, model it right; let's clean up everyone's models and ensure that walls come up all the way to the ceiling
